Jose Angelo A. David is a foreign associate based in the Washington, DC office of GST LLP where he practices investment and commercial arbitration. Some of his most notable cases include representing the Republic of Italy, the Dominican Republic, the Republic of Guatemala, and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in arbitration and post-award proceedings under various arbitration rules.

He holds a Master of Laws degree from Harvard University where he was also a researcher under the supervision of former ICSID Secretary-General Ko-Yung Tung. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from San Beda University in Manila, Philippines, where he graduated top of his class. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, cum laude, from the University of the Philippines, as well as a Diploma in Spanish Law from the Universidad Internacional de Andalucía in Málaga, Spain where he now also teaches International Investment Law and Arbitration.

Prior to joining GST LLP, Mr. David was an associate solicitor at the Office of the Solicitor General of the Republic of the Philippines where he represented his home government in domestic and international arbitration proceedings, as well as before the Philippine Supreme Court and lower courts. He began his legal career as an associate in the litigation and dispute resolution department of the largest law firm in the Philippines – Angara Abello Concepcion Regala & Cruz Law Offices — representing local and multinational companies in in litigation and arbitration proceedings.

Mr. David is also currently an Advisory Board Member of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration and Assistant Editor for ITA in Review. He placed sixth out of almost 6,000 examinees for the 2014 Philippine bar examinations and is qualified to practice law in the Philippines.
